In 1996, Suzanne hosted her first ever gingerbread decorating party. After baking all the houses herself, she had twenty friends over for what turned out to be a great deal of fun. Some houses were wild, some meticulous, but all full of holiday cheer and imbued with the unique personality of the decorator. The women all shared that they loved the chance to be creative in such delicious and festive way. A tradition was born.
Over the years, the event grew as our families grew, and it blossomed to each year five hundred houses were decorated with tens of thousands of pounds of candy.
Wanting to give back, Suzanne and Serena morphed the event in to a benefit for the St. Joseph Center (hyperlink) which provides support to over six thousand homeless each year. Guests brought donations for the thrift shop and decorating for a cause.
Serena loves “gingerbreading”, as she calls it, so much that she expressed a wish to keep the magic going all year round. And Ginngeropolis was born. All the fun and imagination, but re-invented for all the holidays. And even days when you just feel like creating.
The pandemic forced us to pivot from our original plans for 2020. We created at-home decorating kits like nothing you’ve ever seen before, and we can't wait to bring them back for this year, 2021. Your purchase benefits Chrysalis (hyperlink), supporting moving homeless in to jobs and off the streets.
We hope you enjoy the special holiday time, letting your imagination run free, with family and friends. We can’t wait to share with you and appreciate your support.
Love and gingerbread,
Suzanne and Serena
